Georgia O’Keeffe- Flowers and So Much More

So I said to myself-I’ll paint what I see-what the flower is to me but I’ll paint it big and they will be surprised into taking the time to look at it-I will make even busy New Yorkers take time to see what I see of flowers.

Georgia O’Keeffe is an American artist that many people recognize by her painting style. Her large paintings of flowers with colors so beautifully painted make some of us in awe. I can try to imitate her style with my camera but I have yet to make a painting that comes close.

I enjoy reading children’s biographies and I found two at my library that I really loved for Georgia O’Keeffe. See if you can find these two books at your library. (preview for any objectionable illustrations….one has a nude)

If you would like to view some of her paintings online, here is a terrific link. Make sure to click on the paintings to enlarge them.

Most people in the city rush around so, they have no time to look at a flower. I want them to see it whether they want to or not.

Here are some activities that you can use with your children to follow up the reading of one of her biographies.

There are so many ways to tie a study of Georgia O’Keeffe into your homeschooling. Gardening, garden flowers, the desert, women in history, modern history, colors, and so much more.

Enjoy your study,
