Creative Mom – November 2017

Deschutes River Walking

Since moving to Oregon, I had completely procrastinated finishing our master bedroom as far as putting the photos up on the wall and hanging curtains. The weather was too perfect to spend much time inside and keeping the blinds open created an inviting enough atmosphere with the light and gorgeous view coming in the window.

Barnwood frames

Now that the days tend to be a little grayer, I needed to finish decorating to make our room more of a cozy resting spot for the end of the day. I wanted to include a little bit of our story in the décor so I had to decide on photos to enlarge and frames to pick. I love the look of old barn wood but I wasn’t ready to commit to a complete wall of it yet. Instead, I purchased frames for the photos and two mirrors with the light colored barn wood as accents.

It was starting to feel homier just with the addition of a few family photos.

curtains

We chose a fabric for the curtains and I whipped up some simple panels using my trusty sewing machine. What a difference the curtain’s softness adds to the room! After hanging the curtains, I moved one of my potted plants into the room and instantly it felt more welcoming.

Now I need to tackle my master bathroom.

How do you get inspired to take on a room project?

I’ve been using Pinterest. I create a board for ideas and images that catch my eye. Then, once I have gathered a few pins, it’s interesting to see the patterns of things like color, style, and theme. It gives me a really good idea of what I want to gather or create for a room.

Other Creative Endeavors

Baking! Maybe it’s been inspired by my watching Great British Baking Show on Netflix, but I’ve been baking up a lot of goodies for my men. They never complain!

Scrapbooking. I finally organized a work space and have been sorting through photos in anticipation of the colder weather that will drive me indoors. I gathered all of the pens and markers in the house and went through them, checking to see which ones were still good to use and which ones needed to be tossed. I have a bit of a pen obsession. I always feel more creative when I have just the right pen for the job.

Planners. I am continuing to use my Happy Planner each day to keep track of my life. I found one to use for next year that is so pretty! I found some more blank pages to customize for my personal Bible study notes and for more specific personal goal pages. I love having one place to keep it all together and using the Happy Planner pages makes it possible because of the way it is bound, allowing you to move pages around if needed.

Planners

In the past, I had multiple journals and a calendar. Now I have two: my planner and my nature journal.

Lettering. I checked out a stack of books on hand lettering from my public library. I love learning to create an interesting font (is that the right word?) for a project whether it be in my scrapbook, making a card, or in my planner. This goes right along with my love of pens!

Kitchen chalkboard

I purchased a chalkboard at Hobby Lobby when it was half price and then used my 40% off coupon to buy some pretty chalk markers. I’m just getting started creating some chalk art for my kitchen. Such fun! Once again, Pinterest comes to the rescue with a ton of creative ideas to put on my board.
