Music Appreciation Monday – George Gershwin

Music Monday on Harmony Fine Arts @harmonyfinearts.org Join us every Monday for a new musical selection.

I thought you might like to listen to another more modern composer this week so I chose George Gershwin. This week’s selection, like last week’s Williams piece, is from a famous movie. Read about it here: An American in Paris.

Listen to hear “car horns” blaring in one section.

Music Appreciation Monday – Gershwin

This will be the last Music Appreciation Monday post for 2015! I have really enjoyed creating the opportunities for all of us to include a bit of music appreciation in our week…something I hold dear in my heart as I reflect back on my homeschooling my own children. We listened and enjoyed so many outstanding pieces over the years and I hope in some small way that Music Monday will help you create those fond memories in your family.

This week listen and enjoy a more modern composer, George Gershwin! I am going to share two videos so you can see how the piano sounds alone and then with the amazing Ella Fitzgerald actually singing the lyrics to this song.

I’ve Got Rhythm – piano version

I’ve Got Rhythm – Ella Fitzgerald sings this classic!

What differences between the two video versions of this Gershwin piece did you notice? Which one did you enjoy more?

Advanced: How does Gershwin’s music compare to another composer we have listened to as part of Music Appreciation Monday?
