Music Appreciation Monday – Mussorgsky

Music Monday on Harmony Fine Arts @harmonyfinearts.org Join us every Monday for a new musical selection.Music Appreciation Monday – Modest Mussorgsky

I think this is the first featured piece from Modest Mussorgsky. You are either going to really love it or hate it…it is a little intense. I would love to hear what your children think about this particular piece of music. Does it sound familiar to them? (Check out this link: Fantasia.)

Listen to this selection with your children: Night On Bald Mountain.

Russian National Composers: Rimksy-Korsakov, Borodin, and Mussorgsky

This term my youngest son and I are listening to some Russian National composers as outlined on Ambleside Online. I have looked up the suggested musical pieces on Naxos.com and thought I would share the catalogue numbers with you.

If you want to listen on Naxos.com, you can sign-up for their free account and listen to 25% of each piece. If you want to subscribe for one year’s unlimited listening, it is $20. We use their website every week so the $20 is a bargain compared to purchasing all that music.

Here’s how to do it:
1. Go to naxos.com
2. Sign in using the free account or the subscription
3. Click on Search Catalogue
4. Enter the catalogue number into the field given
5. Choose the piece you want to listen to and enjoy

Here are this term’s catalogue numbers:
Rimsky-Korsakov
Scheherazade Catalogue number 8.556674
Symphony 2 “Antar” Catalogue number 8.550811
