Music Appreciation Monday – Johann Sebastian Bach

I think everyone should be able to pick out the sound of a harpsichord and there is no better composer to introduce this instrument than Bach!

Harpsichord Concerto No. 1 in D Minor

Make sure your children know what a harpsichord looks like by doing a quick Google search.

This composer is featured in Harmony Fine Arts grade 2 plans if you would like to listen to more Bach.

I love hearing from participants who have found joy in participating in Music Mondays. Here is an email I received from K:

Thank you for sending out the links for this on Mondays. I was making composer study too difficult and then we just wouldn’t do it. I love just opening your email and playing the link though. And yesterday it even led to listening to some of Copland’s other music. I am introducing my children to great musicians, without overwhelming myself.

Music Appreciation Monday – Johann Sebastian Bach

We are going to listen to another piece by Bach this week. I like this particular video because it has a short biography on slides that you can read as you listen.

Note: There are six of these Brandenburg concertos that you can listen over time. Just go to YouTube and type in Bach Brandenburg Concerto and then the number you wish to listen to. Here is a link for older students to learn more about these pieces of music: Milestones of the Millennium-Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos.

Harmony Fine Arts Composer Study Listening Log @harmonyfinearts

Older students may wish to start a composer listening log for each of the composers we listen to over the coming months. You can click and download a free log above. You can find some suggestions on how to use the listening log and some examples in this entry: Appreciating Great Music: For Children and Moms Too.
