Quality Building Blocks from Larsen Toy Lab – Review and Giveaway

It all started with an email from Alex Larsen of Larsen Toy Lab. He and his sister Courtney have started a toy company that specializes in wooden blocks. Not just any wooden blocks, but handmade in the U.S.A. eco-friendly blocks that encourage children to be creative.

You can read their complete story and view a introductory video at Kickstarter.com. In a nutshell, they are hoping to inspire young children to get back to the basics by building with wooden blocks along with stories and puzzles that come with each set they create. These beautifully crafted blocks are sure to bring hours of fun and learning to any child lucky enough to receive a set.

I am reviewing the Original Set which contains 20 wooden blocks of various shapes and sizes and includes personalization. They come all neatly packaged in a cloth bag along with an original storybook (written by Alex and illustrated by his mom) that will inspire block building. The story tells of a young Viking boy who builds a whole village with wooden blocks. Children can recreate scenes from the book as a way to get started. I love the combination of story-telling and then building on the interest that comes from that story.

Things to Love about Larsen Toy Lab’s Wooden Blocks

  • Quality materials and lovely smooth feel.
  • Encourages critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Creative way to engage the child by first reading the story and then building with the blocks.
  • Lasting value.
  • Personalization!
  • Family created business with young entrepreneurs

Since this is a fledgling company, they are asking for your help in a special way. If you are interested in purchasing a set of the blocks, either the Original Set, the Bridges Set, the Towers Set, or the Shape Match Set, you make a pledge to purchase the blocks and if they reach their fundraising goal, they will deliver the blocks in time for Christmas. If they do not get fully funded, you will not be charged.

Even if you don’t purchase a set of blocks, you are able to help this brother and sister team get started by donating $5, $15, or $25 through the Kickstarter program.

Blocks were at the heart of many hours of play in our home over the years. In fact, our block set is nicely tucked away as an heirloom toy that will be passed on to grandchildren when the time comes. The set of wooden blocks from Larsen Toy Company are a wonderful addition to our family’s block collection.

Two of my fellow bloggers have written about their experiences with Larsen Toy Lab’s wooden blocks and I encourage you to click over and read their reviews.
