Music Monday on Harmony Fine Arts Join us every Monday for a new musical selection.Symphony No. 4 in E Minor by Johannes Brahms

You will be captivated from the very first notes of this symphony! I can visualize all kinds of things as I listen…parts of it make me think I can be sailing on a boat and other parts I am soaring over fields of wildflowers. What images come to your mind as you listen? I hope you enjoy this selection as you do your sketching for the slideshow.

Comparing Two Similar Pieces of Art – Summer Art Continues

Our casual summer art appreciation continues with some familiar boating images from two of our favorite painters.

We chose two paintings from the Summer Art Pinterest Board this week to compare….just because it seemed like the logical thing to do as we viewed the paintings that were left.

Mary Cassatt’s, The Boating Party

Winslow Homer’s, Breezing Up

It was fun to see how many ways we could compare and contrast these two pieces of art. In the process we read on the National Gallery of Art’s website that Cassatt possibly based her painting on a Manet.

Edouard Manet,  Boating

This was a simple way to look more closely at some of the artwork we had pinned to our board and to learn a bit more about the relationships between contemporary Impressionist painters.

Here is a printable notebook page for you to use if you want to join us in comparing these two paintings.
