Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra

Archive Entry

Here is a link to the original entry: Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra

I loved introducing my children to the various instruments of the orchestra when they were quite small. We would listen to music and try to pick out which instruments we could hear. This time of enjoying music together lead to each of them picking their own instruments to play when they were a bit older. Three of my four children stuck with their instruments all through high school: one violin player, one trumpet player, and one flute player. I look back very fondly on those (noisy) years with much pleasure.

I hope you click over to the Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra entry and watch the videos with your children and then look for the music on Amazon where it is available as part of their streaming service, if you have access to that program.

Music Appreciation Monday – Mandolin

Music Appreciation Monday – Featuring the mandolin this week!

I love listening to the mandolin with its sweet relaxing sound. I often play Vivaldi’s mandolin music as background while I work at my desk.

 mandolin music instrument classical

Here is a mandolin piece I hope you enjoy: Minuetto afandangado performed by Manuel Munoz. There are several other mandolin pieces that will play from this same CD on Youtube. If you click over to Youtube and listen, you will find the other ones shown on the right side of the website. Let your children pick which one they like the best!

Does the mandolin sound like any other instruments you know?

If you would like to learn more about specific instruments of the orchestra, my Harmony Fine Arts Grade 5 plans have a complete year of instrument study along with an introduction to popular classical composers. Please take minute to pop over and download the sample and resource list to see if this year plan would help organize a year’s worth of music appreciation for your family.
