Music Appreciation Monday – George Frideric Handel

I can remember listening to Handel’s Water Music many times with my children…maybe it is what inspired one of them to be a trumpet player! These are lots of fun to listen to and I have selected a famous piece for you to listen to this week. I hope you enjoy the bold sound of Handel.

Handel- Water Music (Alla Hornpipe)

This composer is featured in Harmony Fine Arts grade 3 plans if you would like to listen to more Handel.

Music Appreciation Monday – John Williams

Music Monday on Harmony Fine Arts @harmonyfinearts.org Join us every Monday for a new musical selection.

Isn’t music appreciation fun! The thing about it is that if your child doesn’t necessarily like one composer, he may like another because they all have their own style and sound. Just keep trying!

How about something a little more modern and perhaps familiar? I invite you to listen to this piece with your children and enjoy!

John Williams. Indiana Jones Theme.

Which parts of this piece do you like the best? The fast section? The slower parts?

Here is another piece of John Williams that we love: Theme from Hook.

This composer is featured in Harmony Fine Arts grade 3 plans if your family decides you enjoy listening to John Williams. (My boys love his music ….the energy and bold sounds are sure to be a hit with your children too.)

How Artists See… Series from Abbeville Press

how artists see book review button

I am a collector of art books…which really gave rise to the whole idea of Harmony Fine Arts. There were just so many wonderful resources to share and organize into a complete art program.

The How Artists See series from Abbeville Press is one of my favorites. Every single book is filled with wonderful artwork based on a theme….elements, families, heroes, animals, etc.

How Artists See….

Harmony Fine Arts Grade 3 uses the How Artists See – The Elements in Option 2 as a supplement to picture study. Every time I crack open this book I learn something new and see something new in the paintings found on the pages. Well, that is true about every book in the series.

My local library has this series of art books on their shelves so look for them at your library. You will not be disappointed and your children will enjoy a good sit on the sofa with you, paging through the masterpieces together.

Each two-page spread has the painting (or artwork) and then a narrative about the artwork as well as questions to use to go a little further. This makes it super easy to not only enjoy interesting pieces of art but also to be able to have your child narrate their thoughts with little trouble. In the back of the book there are short child-size biographies for the artists covered in the book. There is also a section that tells you where you may be able to see other artwork by the artist near you.

I highly recommend this series of art books for your family.

Harmony Fine Arts Grade 3
