Week 2

Art Appreciation: Jan Vermeer

Harmony Fine Arts Grade 7 Sample Collage

Option 1: Picture Study

  • View The Music Lesson by Johannes Vermeer using the link given in the plans.
  • Print the image for your notebook if you wish using the instructions included in the ebook. Also you can add to your artist notebook page that you started in week 1.

Option 2: Art Appreciation with Follow-Up Activities

(2 short periods or one longer period of time each week)

Please note in Option 2 the book Watercolor for the Artistically Challenged is out of print. You can do an internet search and find a new copy in several places if you want to have one for your family. Or, you can use any of the watercolor lesson plans I created as a substitution: Watercolor Activities for Harmony Fine Arts Grade 7.

Option 3: Artistic Pursuits with World Art

(Note: This option does not correspond with the Late Renaissance to Early Modern history cycle.)

(2 short periods or one longer period of time each week)

  • Continue Artistic Pursuits Jr High Book One Unit 1 which introduces the art element of “space”.
  • Complete the drawing challenge on page 8, working on placing lines within the space of the paper.
  • Finish Unit 1 Artistic Pursuits Jr. High Book One with the project on page 10, using your imagination to illustrate the story from page 10.
  • After completing the Artistic Pursuits reading and projects, view the Girl with a Pearl Earring and notice how Vermeer used space in the painting.

Please Note: Many families combine Option 1 with either Option 2 or 3. You can choose from week to week how much to include in your lesson.

Week 2 Music Appreciation

Robert Schumann

  • Continue listening to Schumann this week using the YouTube link provided for Symphony No. 3
  • Continue working on your listening log and notebook page.
